Serving Those Who Served Us

Chiropractic Care for U.S. Veterans

Military service demands extraordinary physical and mental sacrifice. The cumulative effects of carrying heavy gear, combat exposure, repetitive physical stress, and service-related injuries often create lasting musculoskeletal conditions that conventional medicine struggles to fully address.

At Path to Wellness Clinic of Chiropractic, Dr. Chitra Rajendran is honored to serve the men and women who have served our country. We are a VA Community Care Network (CCN) provider, which means eligible veterans can receive chiropractic care at our clinic and have it covered through their VA benefits.

We understand the unique challenges veterans face. Dr. Chitra takes the time to listen to your full service history, understand your injuries, and build a care plan that addresses not just the symptoms but the root causes of your pain.

Service-Related Conditions

Conditions We Treat in Veterans

Military service creates unique musculoskeletal demands. Dr. Chitra is experienced in treating the common injuries and chronic conditions that affect veterans long after service ends.

Chronic Back & Neck Pain

Years of carrying heavy equipment, sleeping in difficult conditions, and physical demands of service cause lasting spinal damage. Chiropractic adjustments restore alignment and relieve chronic pain without medication.

Sciatica & Nerve Pain

Disc compression and spinal misalignment from combat or heavy physical duty can compress nerves, causing shooting pain, numbness, and weakness. We address the structural causes directly.

Joint & Extremity Injuries

Shoulder, knee, hip, and ankle injuries from physical training, combat, or falls are common in veterans. Extremity adjustments and soft tissue therapy help restore function and reduce pain.

Headaches & Migraines

Service-related cervical spine tension and misalignment are common triggers for chronic headaches in veterans. Chiropractic adjustments to the upper cervical spine can provide significant, lasting relief.

Stress & Muscle Tension

The physical manifestations of stress and trauma — tight shoulders, neck tension, and muscle guarding — respond well to chiropractic care and soft tissue therapy, providing natural, drug-free relief.

Arthritis & Joint Degeneration

Years of physical stress accelerate joint wear in many veterans. Regular chiropractic care helps maintain joint mobility, reduce inflammation, and slow the progression of arthritis-related degeneration.

Your First Visit

What to Expect at Your Veterans Chiropractic Visit

Dr. Chitra approaches veterans care differently — understanding that service creates complex, multi-site conditions that require more than a standard evaluation.

01

Initial Consultation

Service History & Full Evaluation

Your first visit is longer than a typical chiropractic appointment — typically 60 minutes or more for veterans. Dr. Chitra asks about your branch of service, MOS or role, specific injuries sustained during service, current pain pattern and how it affects daily function, medications you are taking, prior treatments attempted, and your goals for care. She then performs a thorough orthopedic and neurological examination. Any available VA imaging is reviewed. Clinical documentation begins at this first visit. Serving veterans from Fleming Island, Orange Park, Middleburg, Green Cove Springs, and all of Clay County.

02

Building Your Plan

Personalized Treatment Design

Based on your evaluation, Dr. Chitra creates a care plan that addresses your specific injuries in priority order — not just the most painful site, but the underlying structural contributors. For VA CCN patients, the plan is aligned with your current authorization. Dr. Chitra explains which techniques she will use and why — Diversified, Activator, Thompson Drop, Torque Release, or a combination. She discusses realistic timelines, measurable goals, and what to expect at each stage of recovery.

03

Active Treatment

Multi-Therapy Approach

Veterans with complex service-related injuries benefit from the range of therapies available at Path to Wellness Clinic. Chiropractic adjustments address spinal and joint alignment. Cold laser therapy reduces chronic inflammation in damaged soft tissues. IASTM mobilizes scar tissue and fascial restrictions from old injuries. Cupping therapy relieves deep muscle tension that has built up over years of service. Extremity adjustments address shoulder, knee, hip, and ankle injuries. Dr. Chitra combines these strategically for each patient rather than applying the same protocol to everyone.

04

Ongoing Documentation

VA-Ready Clinical Records

Dr. Chitra maintains thorough clinical documentation that meets VA standards and can be shared with your VA care team. Progress assessments at regular intervals track measurable improvements in pain, range of motion, and function. For veterans involved in disability rating processes, documentation of functional limitations and treatment response may be relevant. Dr. Chitra communicates with VA providers when requested and coordinates care across the healthcare team.

You can request Path to Wellness Clinic specifically, or receive a general community care authorization for chiropractic. Dr. Chitra treats a wide range of service-related musculoskeletal conditions including chronic back and neck pain from decades of carrying heavy loads, joint injuries from physical training or combat, sciatica and nerve pain from disc compression or spinal stenosis, headaches and migraines from cervical tension and trauma, shoulder and knee injuries from repeated physical demands, arthritis and joint degeneration from cumulative service stress, and chronic muscle tension that persists long after service ends.
Yes — and the VA itself recognizes this. The VA has significantly expanded access to chiropractic care as part of its Whole Health and opioid reduction strategy. Multiple studies show that chiropractic reduces opioid use in chronic musculoskeletal pain populations. For veterans seeking effective drug-free pain management, chiropractic offers evidence-based, non-invasive relief that addresses structural causes of pain rather than masking symptoms. This is particularly valuable for veterans who have concerns about long-term opioid use.
Chronic conditions from years of service typically require longer treatment courses. A realistic expectation for significant improvement in chronic service-related back pain is 3–6 months of regular care — starting at 2–3 times per week and tapering to monthly maintenance. Some veterans receive ongoing maintenance care to manage chronic conditions and prevent deterioration. Dr. Chitra provides a clear, honest treatment plan with timelines and measurable goals at your first visit.
Yes. Dr. Chitra provides detailed clinical documentation for every visit and communicates with your VA primary care provider, specialists, or patient advocate when requested. Thorough documentation is a priority — both for care coordination and for maintaining accurate records in your VA file. Our clinical notes meet VA standards and can be shared with your care team directly. Dr. Chitra understands that veterans' healthcare often involves multiple providers and is committed to being a collaborative member of your team.

Chiropractic care directly addresses the musculoskeletal and structural components of chronic pain — muscle tension, spinal misalignment, and nerve compression that often coexist with psychological trauma. Many veterans report that reducing physical pain positively impacts their overall quality of life and stress levels. While chiropractic is not a PTSD treatment, addressing the physical burden of pain is an important component of a veteran's overall wellness. Dr. Chitra refers to mental health providers when appropriate and supports a whole-person approach to veteran care.
